Cowichan School District Videos

As part of School District 79’s Careers and Dual Credit Department, staff facilitate ADST builds in classes throughout the district from Grades K-12. To better assist teachers interested in incorporating more ADST builds with their students, the Careers and Dual Credit department has produced a Career and Dual Credit Instructional Video Series for teacher’s to watch and use in class.

Gravity Car Challenge

The Gravity Car Challenge is for grades 6-8. For this Skills Canada-BC competitive, students will work as a team with two to four other students to design and build a Gravity Vehicle. Each vehicle will be judged by how fast it travels on a track. For this competition the Careers and Dual Credit will be facilitating a build day at participating elementary schools.

Wind Turbine Challenge

The Wind Turbine Challenge is for grades 6-10. Created by Skills Canada-BC , this competition is designed to encourage students in Grades 6 – 10 across the province to use their knowledge, skills, leadership, teamwork and ingenuity to design and build a working model wind turbine in a one day competition.  For this competition you will need a Wind Turbine kit. If you do not have one please email careereducation@sd79.bc.ca

Gearbot Build

The Gearbot Engineering Challenge is for grades 4-11. As part of Skills Canada-BC, this competition is designed to encourage students to apply the engineering process using effective iterative design to complete a number of missions within a set time period. For this competition you will need a Lego Minstroms Ev3 kit and mission mat. If you do not have one please email careereducation@sd79.bc.ca

Used by students competing in Skills Canada’s Sumo Robot Challenge. Follow this step by step video to help you assemble your Tamiya Twin-Motor Gear Box. What can typically be a challenging build is now simplified with the help of this step by step guide created by School District 79’s Career & Dual Credit team here on Vancouver Island.
